College Football Fans Clamor for Texas in CFP After Blowout Win in Big 12 Title Game

The Longhorns did their job to prove they belong.

Texas needed a win in the Big 12 championship game to keep its dreams of reaching the College Football Playoff alive, and the Longhorns played like they knew the stakes.

Texas blew out Oklahoma State, 49–21, on Saturday in Arlington, Texas, emphatically stating their case to be one of the top four teams in the country.

However, just because Texas won doesn’t mean the Longhorns will get into the Playoff. The Longhorns likely need GeorgiaMichigan or Florida State to lose, with the Seminoles’ No. 4 spot being the most attainable position.

A number of fans believe Texas should be in the Playoff regardless of whether Florida State beats Louisville in the ACC championship game Saturday night.

After all, the Longhorns defeated Alabama in a true road game on Sept. 9, and their only loss came to a good Oklahoma team. Meantime, the Seminoles’ starting quarterback, Jordan Travis, is out for the season.

Additionally, even if Alabama defeats Georgia in the SEC championship game, their loss to Texas looms large in a résumé debate.

Texas now has to wait and hope chaos ensues the rest of the day. At the very least, the Longhorns are likely to jump No. 5 Oregon, which lost in the Pac-12 championship game on Friday, and they also might leap No. 6 Ohio State, whose regular season ended last week.
