Ex-Texas QB Maalik Murphy Schedules Three Transfer Visits, per Report
Former Texas quarterback Maalik Murphy, who announced he was entering the transfer portal earlier this week, has scheduled several visits, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Thamel reported Friday night that Murphy will be taking visits to Duke and Baylor, followed by a trip to Oregon State.
Murphy, a former 5-star recruit, is one of the most coveted players in the portal. While filling in for an injured Quinn Evers this season, Murphy led the Longhorns to wins over BYU and Kansas State, throwing for 418 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.
The strong-armed 6’5” signal-caller opted to leave Texas due to the plethora of talent at the quarterback position for the Longhorns. Ewers is expected to return next season, along with highly touted freshman Arch Manning.
Murphy, who attended Serra High School in Gardena, Calif., initially signed with the Longhorns over UCLA. Now, as Texas prepares for the College Football Playoff, the Longhorns will be doing so without Murphy.
