Troy Football Hires Gerad Parker as Head Coach
Troy hired Notre Dame offensive coordinator Gerad Parker as the team’s new head coach on Monday.
Jon Sumrall coached Troy the last two seasons and won two conference titles before heading to Tulane. Parker will take over the Trojans after they finished on top of the Sun Belt Conference with an 11–2 record.
“We are excited to appoint Gerad Parker to lead our proud and storied football program,” Troy chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr. said in a statement.
“His experience at Notre Dame and several other premier programs in America and his proven plan of success will provide a clear path to continue our championship-winning status,” Hawkins Jr. added. “He comes to Troy with outstanding credentials and with the highest recommendations. We are proud to welcome Gerad and his family into the Trojan Family.”
Under Parker, the Fighting Irish were ranked eighth in the nation by averaging 39.1 points in their 9–3 season.
This will be Parker’s first time being named a head coach of a college football program. He served as interim coach of Purdue in 2016, a year that the team went 3–9.
