After North Carolina State won 39–20 over North Carolina in football on Nov. 25, Wolfpack coach Dave Doeren delivered a fiery, NSFW speech to his team in the locker room, which was caught on camera.

Doeren called his team’s opponents “pieces of s---,” which understandably rubbed UNC coach Mack Brown the wrong way. He finally spoke about the video when talking to media on Wednesday.

“I’ve never heard something like that before, I’m disappointed,” Brown said, via ESPN. “I thought it was classless. It’s not true. We didn’t play well in the game. We didn’t coach well in the game. It’s been very well-documented, and I got that, but you don’t call kids a piece of s---, and I’ve addressed it with our team. I apologized to them.”

Doeren did say he called Brown after the video was posted to apologize to him for what he said in the “heat of the moment.” The Wolfpack coach said he didn’t know the cameras were recording him when he went on his tirade about the Tar Heels. Doeren admitted that he wished he had said the speech in a more “professional way,” but he didn’t regret the passion he gave his team.

If anything, this situation only adds to the intensity for next year’s rivalry matchup between the teams.
