Quarterback Casey Thompson is joining his fourth team of his nearly seven-year college football career, announcing Oklahoma as his next, and likely last, destination.

The 25-year-old was born in Oklahoma and played high school football there. Thompson’s father Charles also played quarterback at Oklahoma from 1986–88.

Oklahoma lost its 2023 starter Dillon Gabriel as he transferred to Oregon last month. Jackson Arnold is currently projected to start for the Sooners in 2024, though the veteran Thompson could potentially compete for the job.

Thompson said he’s “coming home” in his announcement post.

Thompson was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2018, and he joined Texas for his freshman season. He remained there until after the 2021 season, which he was the primary starter for the Longhorns. That year he threw 2,113 yards, 24 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Thompson entered the transfer portal that offseason, though, when Texas got its current starter Quinn Ewers out of Ohio State. Thompson transferred to Nebraska where he was the Cornhuskers’ starter in 2022. He threw for 2,407 yards, 17 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 10 games that he started before getting injured.

This last season he played for Florida Atlantic, but only started in three games before tearing his ACL and missing the remainder of the season.
