TCU Basketball to Hold Open Tryouts After Forfeiting Two Games Due to Player Shortage
The TCU women’s basketball team has been plagued with injuries this season to the point where the team is now holding open tryouts for students interested in walking on to the roster.
The Horned Frogs, who started the season 14–0, had to forfeit upcoming games against No. 7 Kansas State and No. 24 Iowa State due to not having enough eligible players available.
TCU lost guard Jaden Owens for the rest of the season with a torn ACL and meniscus in her right knee on Saturday during the team’s 77–66 loss to Houston. TCU only had 10 players available in that game.
The Big 12 requires TCU to add the two forfeited games to the team’s conference record, which now makes them 1–6. However, the NCAA will not add the two forfeited games to the team’s overall record. They are currently 14–4 overall.
Arizona State faced a similar situation when it had to forfeit two games in January 2023 due to a lack of healthy players.
The two games canceled by TCU were set for Wednesday night vs. Kansas State and Saturday vs. Iowa State. The games will not be made up at another date.
