Michigan Promotes Sherrone Moore to Head Coach After Jim Harbaugh’s Departure
With national champion coach Jim Harbaugh off to the NFL's Los Angeles Chargers, Michigan is turning to a familiar face as his successor.
The Wolverines are hiring offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Sherrone Moore as their next head coach, the university announced Friday.
Moore, 37, served as Michigan's acting head coach during four games in the 2023 season. He went 4-0, defeating Bowling Green, Penn State, Maryland and Ohio State.
During his last three games in charge while Harbaugh served a suspension for alleged violations related to illegal in-person scouting, Moore won acclaim for his play-calling—particularly in the Wolverines' 30–24 victory over coach Ryan Day's Buckeyes.
Michigan will have an arduous schedule ahead of them in 2024, with games against Texas, USC, Washington, Oregon and the Buckeyes on the docket.
Before joining Harbaugh's staff for the 2018 season, Moore coached at Louisville and Central Michigan. The Derby, Kans., native played collegiately at Oklahoma from 2006-07.
