Atlantic Sun Suspends CBB Official After Alleged Slur Used Toward Jacksonville Coach
The Atlantic Sun Conference has suspended an official involved in an in-game altercation with Jacksonville University men’s basketball coach Jordan Mincy for the remainder of the season after he allegedly used a slur in the direction of the Dolphins coach.
The altercation occurred minutes into Jacksonville’s contest against North Alabama on Saturday, a game that the Dolphins won 67–63. Mincy was ejected from the contest and had to be restrained by his assistants during the spat with an official.
The Atlantic Sun announced its decision to suspend the official in an official statement on Sunday, without revealing the official’s identity.
“The Atlantic Sun Conference has suspended an official involved in an in-game interaction with Jacksonville University head men’s basketball coach Jordan Mincy due to conduct not in alignment with the expectations of the ASUN. This suspension shall be in effect through the remainder of the 2023-24 season and postseason. The conference office considers this matter closed.”
When asked about the incident, Mincy told The Florida Times-Union that the slur in his direction is the reason he lashed out at the official.
“It’s why I reacted the way that I did,” Mincy said. “But JU and [athletic director] Alex [Ricker-Gilbert] had my back and the ASUN has dealt with it. We’re going to move on.”
The Dolphins are back in action on Wednesday night on the road at Kennesaw State.
