Lone Fan Storms Court After College Basketball Team's First Win of the Season
The Detroit Mercy Titans are winless no longer.
Detroit Mercy picked up its first win of the college basketball season on Wednesday in a 81–66 win over IUPUI, improving to 1-26 on the year. The victory ends a 27-game losing streak, including 26 consecutive defeats during the 2023-24 season, and saw one fan overcome with joy.
After the final buzzer sounded on the Titans’ victory, one fan could be seen storming the court all by his lonesome.
As the two teams began walking back toward their respective benches, one fan ran onto the court with his arms raised in celebration. He then appeared to look back over his shoulder, only to see that none of his comrades had joined him in storming the court, though that didn’t seem to dissuade him.
Heading into Wednesday’s game, Detroit Mercy was one of just two teams in the nation without a win, along with Mississippi Valley State (0-24). Despite the Titans’ lackluster record, they entered the matchup as 5.5-point favorites, and they lived up to expectations as they secured their all-important first win.
While it was anything but a packed house at Calihan Hall in Detroit, the eager Titans fan showcased his appreciation for the team’s first win of the year in epic fashion.
Detroit Mercy will look to follow up their season’s first victory with another win on Saturday when they host Fort Wayne.
