The men’s Division I college basketball tilt between the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights and Long Island University Sharks was delayed Thursday after multiple Fairleigh Dickinson players got stuck in an elevator prior to tipoff.

The players were reportedly heading from the locker room to the court when they got stuck in the elevator. Firefighters arrived on the scene and attempted to get the players out of the elevator, according to John Fanta of Fox

Tipoff between the Knights and Sharks was scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST at the Steinberg Wellness Center in Brooklyn, New York, however the game was unable to commence as planned due to the unexpected situation involving members of Fairleigh Dickinson.

Eventually, the FDU players were able to get out of the elevator, thanks to some assistance from the fire department.

When they finally arrived to the court for warmups, one player was asked about the situation. He described it as being “hot” and said the players were stuck in the elevator for roughly 15 minutes before the fire department was able to get them out.

The game tipped off shortly after the players reached the court, with the delay ultimately lasting a bit over 20 minutes.
