UCLA to Hire Eric Bieniemy as Offensive Coordinator, per Report

It will be Bieniemy’s second stint as an assistant coach in Los Angeles.

UCLA is hiring former Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy as the school’s next offensive coordinator, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Pete Thamel. Bieniemy will also receive an associate head coach title as part of his new role with the school.

The 54-year-old Bieniemy joins the staff of new head coach DeShaun Foster, who was promoted from his role as an assistant on Chip Kelly’s staff earlier this month. It will be a two-year deal for the former Washington offensive coordinator.

This is the second time Bieniemy has coached at UCLA, having previously been a running backs coach with the school from 2003-’05 under coach Karl Dorrell.

“Southern California. I attended high school there. I started my career in the league here (with the Chargers). It’s obviously great to be back with the Bruins, where I was previously employed,” Bieniemy wrote in an e-mail to Schefter and Thamel on Saturday.

Bieniemy has been in the running for several NFL head coaching jobs over the last few years, but ultimately remained an offensive coordinator with the Chiefs and Commanders. He now returns to the college game for the first time since 2012, when he was the offensive coordinator at Colorado. That was his final job at the college level before joining Andy Reid’s Kansas City staff in the NFL.
