Duke's Kyle Filipowski to Play Wednesday Following Court-Storming Injury, and Fans Had Jokes
The Duke Blue Devils take the court on Wednesday night for the first time since their upset loss against Wake Forest at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Saturday night. That game resulted in the controversial court-storming that sparked a mountain of hot takes after Kyle Filipowski collided with a fan and injured his ankle.
Because of the injury to Filipowski, much was made of the Demon Deacon fans storming the court after Saturday’s game as it relates to player safety, withmany calling for a ban on court-storming, and harsh punishments for those that continue to partake in the celebratory practice.
As it turns out, it doesn’t appear the injury to Filipowski was too severe. Although coach Jon Scheyer said that the 20-year-old had sustained a sprained ankle, Filipowski is reportedly expected to play Wednesday against the Louisville Cardinals, according to college basketball insider Adam Zagoria. As such, he’ll have missed a total of zero games as a result of the chaotic scenes on Saturday.
Following the dramatic discourse that occurred during the days following Duke’s loss to Wake Forest, college basketball fans were in disbelief and had plenty of jokes after the reports of Filipowski’s status for Wednesday’s game came out.
