Fairfield Women’s Basketball Team Gets First AP Ranking After Witty Plea on Social Media

The Stags’ social media team executed a clever idea to get the program noticed.

Fairfield’s social media team offered a pretty convincing argument for the school’s women’s basketball team to be ranked for the first time ever Sunday.

The Stags’ social crew posted an image of a résumé on X, formerly Twitter, highlighting the team’s 24-game winning streak and asking for voting consideration. On Monday, the Stags (26–1, 18–0 MAAC) made school history by moving into the No. 25 spot in this week’s Associated Press poll. It’s the first time a MAAC women’s team has been ranked in the AP poll in over a decade.

The Stags’ social post also highlighted the team’s school-record 26 wins this season and noted victories over teams from the Big Ten (Rutgers), Big East (St. John’s) and Atlantic 10 (Fordham). On the left side of the résumé, three “references” were featured, including head coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis and players, Meghan Andersen and Janelle Brown.

It was definitely a clever idea to get the program noticed.

“We are grateful that our consistency has been rewarded by the voters and we’re going to keep working hard so that today isn’t a crescendo, but rather a launching point to even bigger accomplishments,” Thibault-DuDonis said, per the Fairfield’s official athletics website.

The Stags play at Saint Peter’s (7–20, 4–14) on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET.
