Boston College appears set to add a third former NFL coach to a staff heavy on professional experience.

The Eagles are hiring former NFL coach Doug Marrone as a senior analyst for football strategy and research, according to a Saturday afternoon report from Pete Thamel of ESPN.

Marrone, 59, coached the Buffalo Bills from from 2013 to ’14 and the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2016 to ’20. He has a lifetime record of 38-60 in the NFL to go with a 25-25 ledger at Syracuse from 2009-12.

Marrone most recently served as the New Orleans Saints’ offensive line coach from 2022-23.

Should Marrone formally join Boston College’s staff, the Eagles will have three former NFL coaches on payroll in 2024.

Boston College hired former Houston Texans coach Bill O’Brien as its head coach on Feb. 9, replacing Jeff Hafley after the latter’s departure to become the Green Bay Packers’ defensive coordinator. Former Cleveland Browns coach Rob Chudzinski has spent four seasons with the Eagles as a special assistant to the head coach and an associate head coach.

Coming off a 7–6 record in 2023, Boston College is scheduled to open its season Sept. 2 at Florida State.
