Former Notre Dame and Arizona State quarterback Drew Pyne will transfer to Missouri for the 2024 season, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Sunday.

Pyne plans to enroll at Missouri this summer and will have three years of eligibility remaining, Thamel reports.

The former Fighting Irish signal-caller transferred to Arizona State ahead of the 2023 season but chose to return to Notre Dame this past semester to obtain his degree in American studies with a minor in business economics.

As Notre Dame’s starting quarterback in 2022, Pyne recorded 2,021 passing yards with 22 touchdown passes against six interceptions. He went 4—1 against AP top 25 teams during his Fighting Irish career but left for the Sun Devils in December 2022 shortly before Sam Hartman’s arrival at Notre Dame as a transfer from Wake Forest.

At Arizona State, injuries plagued Pyne’s junior campaign, and he ended up playing in just two games last season.

Pyne will be expected to take on a backup role for Missouri with starter Brady Cook returning for one more year. The Tigers’ quarterback room also includes three-star recruit Aidan Glover and sophomore Sam Horn, who underwent Tommy John surgery and will miss the upcoming season.

“From the beginning, Missouri stood out,” Pyne told ESPN. “The program has great momentum as one of the best in the SEC and to be one of the best in the country. Being on campus and talking to the coaches, I understand why they had such a great season last year. I believe strongly that they are going to be a big-time player in college football. I’m hoping to contribute to that however I can.”

Missouri went 11—2 last season with a Cotton Bowl win over Ohio State under coach Eliah Drinkwitz and almost certainly will begin the 2024-25 season as a top-25 team.
