Providence guard Devin Carter will forego his senior season and declare for the NBA draft, he announced on Instagram on Wednesday.

“This is not goodbye—it's just a new chapter in this incredible journey from God,” Carter wrote in a message addressed to Friars fans. “I am thrilled about what lies ahead and am committed to making all of you proud as I take this next step.”

Carter, the son of longtime NBA point guard Anthony Carter, was selected as the Big East Player of the Year this season after leading the conference with 19.7 points per game. The 6'3" guard also led the Friars with 8.7 rebounds per game, a significant jump from the 4.9 per game he averaged last season.

Carter is widely regarded as a top-20 prospect in this year’s draft. He stands 6'3" but has a 6'9" wingspan, according to ESPN, which helps make him a strong rebounder and one of the best defenders in college basketball. He elevated his draft stock this season by making impressive strides toward improving his offensive game. In his first two college seasons (as a freshman at South Carolina and sophomore at Providence), Carter hit just 28.8% of his three-point attempts. This season, he shot 37.7% from deep.

Carter’s father played 12 seasons in the NBA, mostly with the Heat and Nuggets. He is currently an assistant coach for the Grizzlies.
