In this story:

It seems the entire sports world has women's college basketball fever.

Once a sport that struggled for airtime, the game has rocketed into the mainstream in recent weeks. On Sunday, Iowa and South Carolina are meeting in a national championship tilt likely to leave viewership records in the dust.

Before the seismic showdown, the greatest baseball player of his generation paid tribute to a women's basketball player who could conceivably become the greatest of hers.

Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout donned Hawkeyes guard Caitlin Clark's jersey before the Angels' game against the Boston Red Sox on Sunday, sharing a picture of the jersey on Instagram.

Clark—college basketball's all-division, all-gender, all-time leading scorer—is coming off a 21-point, nine-rebound, seven-assist performance in Iowa's 71-69 win over Connecticut in the Final Four Friday night.

Whether she can bring a championship back to the Hawkeye State after coming up short in the final last year against LSU remains to be seen.
