Returning
Mark Sears
- Mark Sears declared for the NBA Draft, but he opted to maintain his eligibility and keep the option open for him to return to school for his final season. He just put together one of the best seasons in Alabama basketball history as a first team All-SEC and second team All-American player. After going through the draft process, he opted to return to Alabama for his final season and will be one of the best returning players in all of college basketball.
Grant Nelson
- Nelson came into the season with high expectations, and while his regular season left some to be desired, he turned it on in the NCAA Tournament, putting together an impressive string of games that helped lead Alabama to the Final Four His return for his final season of eligibility is a massive boost for Alabama, and with a season of high-major ball under his belt, he's primed for a monster season in his second year in Tuscaloosa.
Latrell Wrightsell Jr.
- Wrightsell proved to be one of the most important players for Alabama this past season. The Crimson Tide went undefeated when he scored double figures, and struggled at times when he missed games due to injury. His return for his fifth and final season of eligibility gives Alabama a steady, veteran presence at the guard position next season, as well as one of the best shooters in the SEC back in the fold.
Jarin Stevenson
- It took Stevenson a while to get his feet under him after reclassifying to the 2023 recruiting class and joining the Alabama team at just 18 years old. He was one of the youngest players in college basketball last season, but constantly flashed his potential, especially in the Elite Eight against Clemson. Stevenson tested in the NBA Draft waters, but decided to return for his sophomore season after receiving feedback.
Mo Dioubate
- Dioubate became a fan-favorite over the course of his freshman year, after starting the year out of the rotation and slowly working his way into more playing time due to his blue-collar style of play. He embraced his role, doing the dirty work of making hustle plays and defending at as high a level as anyone on the team. His offensive game needs a lot of work, but there's always a place on Oats' teams for a spark plug that plays with his effort.
Departing Transfers
Kris Parker
- Parker redshirted as a freshman this past season, but is an intriguing prospect due to his size and athleticism. He's 6-foot-9 and listed as a guard, and through practice footage he's posted on social media has shown immense bounce and some tough shotmaking ability. Parker will have four years of eligibilty at his next school because of his redshirt.
Rylan Griffen
- Griffen took a massive leap from his freshman to his sophomore year, going from a reserve to a starter and nearly doubling his points per game average. He will have two years of eligibility after committing to Kansas on April 26.
Davin Cosby Jr.
- Cosby was with Alabama for a year and a half, finally seeing playing time as a redshirt freshman this past season after reclassifying and joining the program back in January of 2023. He served as a reserve, playing a bench role when Wrightsell went down with an injury, but showed potential as a shooter against Ole Miss where he made five 3-pointers. He will have three years of eligibility after committing to Wake Forest on April 25.
Sam Walters
- Walters showed plenty of flashes as an elite shooter during his freshman year, but struggled a bit in SEC play having to play against bigger, more physical teams. He shot just under 40 percent from deep as a freshman, and will have three years of eligibility at his next stop. Walters committed to Michigan on April 22.
Nick Pringle
- Pringle had an up-and-down season in 2023-24. After serving multiple suspensions throughout the year, he found his role as an emotional leader late in the season, and was one of the biggest catalysts for Alabama's Final Four run. Although he was a senior, he still has one year of eligibility remaining thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. Pringle committed to South Carolina on April 27.
Mo Wague
- Wague had a promising start to the year, even serving as the starting center for about a month of non-conference play. But a re-aggravated knee injury hampered him, and by the end of the season he had all but completely fallen out of the rotation. Wague committed to Oklahoma on May 14, where he will spend his final year of eligibility.
Incoming Transfers
Houston Mallette
- Mallette is a 6-foot-5 guard who transferred from Pepperdine, committing to Alabama back before the NCAA Tournament even started. His offense game is a perfect fit for Alabama's system, he averaged 14.5 points per game and shot over 40 percent from deep. His length at the guard position is also a huge plus. He may nor may not start, but he'll play starter-caliber minutes in Tuscaloosa for his final season of eligibility.
Chris Youngblood
- Youngblood had an excellent year at South Florida last season, being named the co-AAC Player of the Year as he led the Bulls to a regular season conference champion. He averaged 15 points per game as a very capable scorer, and has shot 40 percent from three the past three seasons of his career. He will be a 5th-year senior on his final year of eligibility.
Aden Holloway
- Holloway made a splash transferring from Auburn to Alabama after an interesting freshman season with the Tigers. He averaged 7 points per game on inefficient shooting, clearly dealing with some confidence issues, but flashed the potential that made him a McDonald's All-American and 5-star recruit coming out of high school. Nate Oats will look to unlock that potential as Holloway will look to benefit from a change of scenery with three years of eligibility remaining.
Incoming Freshmen
Derrion Reid
- 5-star forward Derrion Reid is the highest-rated recruit in Alabama's 2024 class. A McDonald's All-American, he measures in at 6-foot-7 and has a versatile game. He's athletic, finishes extremely well at the rim, and is a very solid defender. He will be in the mix for lots of playing time as a freshman, maybe even a starting role.
Aiden Sherrell
- Sherrell is a 5-star center and also a McDonald's All-American, who was high school teammates with Reid. He stands at 6-foot-11 and is a solid rim protector, something Alabama sorely missed in 2024. His veratile offensive game is perfect for Oats' system, with a consistent 3-ball that will allow Alabama to stretch opposing defenses when he's in the game.
Naas Cunningham
- Cunningham, a 4-star recruit ranked in the top-50 of the 2024 class, has a unique blend of length and skill, measuring at 6-foot-7 but mostly playing the guard position. He's an incredibly skilled shotmaker, and has all the tools to be a very successful player once you throw in his athleticism.
Labaron Philon
Philon was a late addition to the Alabama recruiting class, committing to Alabama after decommitting from Kansas. The 6-foot-4 point guard is a native of Mobile, Alabama, and is an extremely talented scorer. He adds even more depth to this Alabama guard rotation, and his addition makes this Alabama recruiting class the best in school history, ranked No. 2 in the country.
Exhausted Eligibility
Aaron Estrada
- Estrada transferred to Alabama from Hofstra for his fifth and final year of eligibility, and was a key piece in the Crimson Tide's Final Four run. He averaged 13.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.7 assists while starting every game, and even became the third player in program history to record a triple double in his game against Ole Miss.
Outgoing Coaches
Austin Claunch
- Claunch was one of three new assistants to join Alabama's staff last offseason, leaving a head coaching role at Nicholls State to be an assistant in Tuscaloosa. Before the NCAA Tournament, he was named the head coach at UTSA. He remained with the Crimson Tide through its Final Four run.
