4-Star Wide Receiver Aeryn Hampton Lists Alabama Among Final Two Schools
Aeryn Hampton has cut the number of schools down to two, and one of them is the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Hampton, a consensus 4-star recruit from Daingerfield High School in Texas, is the No. 9 ATH in the country and the No. 21 player in the state. The other school he's considering is an in-state program - the Texas Longhorns.
Looking at his tape, Hampton is a bonafide deep-ball threat, blowing past defenders with his speed to catch 50-yard bombs. He did not showcase his route-running ability on tape, but he was so fast that he often didn't need to. He also displayed the same speed while catching screen passes or reverse plays in the backfield.
Hampton also plays defensive back and is solid at the position, but he'll likely be a wide receiver at the next level.
What's interesting about the two programs is that one is fairly established in its offensive identity while the other has new pieces that haven't been tested yet. It's common knowledge that Steve Sarkisian is an offensive genius, and quarterbacks and receivers have thrived in Arlington.
On the Alabama side, the quarterback situation is still up in the air and there won't be any answers about Tommy Rees' offense until the fall. Even if Hampton commits to the Tide, a poor offensive display in the fall could lead him to flip to Texas or another program.
It's also worth mentioning that Hampton was committed to Texas in February 2022, but decommitted in December with a willingness to recommit.
Hampton could be a dangerous weapon in Tuscaloosa, and with the right development, he could he another great Alabama receiver.
