Alabama Baseball Silenced by No. 5 Vanderbilt in Game 2
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Sometimes, it's just not your night.
That was the case for Alabama Baseball — which fell to the No. 5 Vanderbilt Commodores 4-1 at Sewell-Thomas Stadium on Friday night.
"Really well played game tonight from both teams," interim head coach Jason Jackson said. "We just couldn't ever get anything going on their guys. There's a reason why that team is where they are. They're a very complete, well-rounded team."
When there's someone on the mound having an incredible performance — you just have to tip the cap.
Vanderbilt LHP Hunter Owen was sensational, limiting the Crimson Tide (31-16, 10-13 SEC) to just one run on two hits in seven innings pitched. He didn't walk a batter — and struck out nine.
"Hunter Owen really pitched great," Jackson said. "He had all four pitches going. [He] did a great job of kind of shutting down our offense — which has been on fire. [He] was kind of clicking on all cylinders."
Alabama went 2-for-29 (.069) at the plate as a team — producing just two baserunners the entire game.
Caden Rose had the lone highlight of the night — a solo home run in the sixth inning.
For what it's worth, the Crimson Tide had a pretty solid night on the mound. RHP Garrett McMillan pitched six full innings, allowing four runs on seven hits. The bullpen gave Alabama a chance, limiting the Commodores (34-12, 17-6 SEC) to just one baserunner over the last three innings.
The Crimson Tide has a shot at a series win over fifth-ranked Vanderbilt on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
