The Alabama Crimson Tide went into Canada and almost defeated the No. 4 Purdue Boilermakers on Saturday. Let's talk about the game and everything else that went down over the weekend on "The Joe Gaither Show on BamaCentral".

We open the show with major recruiting news as 5-star wide receiver Ryan Williams took to social media on Monday and announced he would be reclassifying into the 2024 class. How soon can Williams make an impact for the Crimson Tide? Is Jaylen Waddle the last elite wide receiver the Tide has been able to recruit?

Let's move into the Heisman Trophy discussion as LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels won the award. I believed he was the best player but we're surprised the voters didn't give the award to Michael Penix of Washington due to his team's record.

We continue with award season to discuss Dallas Turner being placed on the Walter Camp Second Team All-American list. Sure, Turner's 50 tackles and 9.5 sacks aren't eye-popping numbers, but his impact on the Crimson Tide defense is easy to see week-in and week-out. How do you leave the SEC Defensive Player of the Year on the second team?

The program then moves into Alabama's basketball game against Purdue as the Tide fell to Zach Eddy and the Purdue Boilermakers by six-points on Saturday. Is it a moral-victory for Alabama to hang with a top-five team in the country, or is it more of the same as the Tide's defense let them down against a premier opponent?
