Alabama Football Players Begin Opting Into NCAA Football Video Game
One of the most anticipated products is making its return thanks to the advent of name, image and likeness policies in NCAA athletics.
This summer friends and enemies will gather around the television and prepare for the upcoming college football season with the return of EA Sports's NCAA Football franchise.
This week EA announced its intentions to allow NCAA football players to opt into the game in exchange for $600 and a free copy of the game upon release.
Alabama football players Malachi Moore and Jalen Milroe have already taken to social media announcing that they've opted in. Is the compensation enough to participate?
Players like Moore and Milroe are likely receiving more than the $600 as they appear to be participating in the promotion of the game. It will be interesting to see if either appear in televised commercials over the next few months, if so, its safe to assume they are compensated beyond the $600.
The video game is set to release in the middle of summer, just in time for everyone to get amped up for fall camp. The compensation bares out to just under a $7 million price tag to get the players real names and face scans integrated into the game. Is this a big enough piece of the pie for the players considering the revenue for NCAA2014 was roughly $125 million.
The hunger for a game that's been gone for almost a decade is at an all-time high, meaning this edition's sales are likely to set a high water mark for the company. Alabama football has confirmed as an entity the program is in the game, we'll wait and see if the rest of the player follow Moore and Milroe and get in the game as well.
