Alabama Freshman DB Tony Mitchell Arrested on Marijuana Possession Charges
Alabama freshman defensive back Tony Mitchell was arrested in Bonifay, Fla., on Wednesday according to the Holmes County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.
Mitchell was charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to sell and/or deliver.
According to the sheriff's office deputies detected the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle Mitchell was driving. He produced a baggie of marijuana, and after an additional search of the car a set of scales, a loaded handgun between the passenger seat and center console and a large amount of cash were also found.
His passenger Christopher Lewis was charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to sell and/or deliver and carrying a concealed firearm without a permit. Both were taken to the Holmes County Jail.
The freshman defensive back was a consensus 4-star prospect out of Thompson High School in Alabaster, Alabama and came in at 64th on the SI99 for the class of 2023. He earned a spot in the Under Armour All-America Game.
It is currently spring break for University of Alabama students. Alabama has not started practice for spring football yet, but Mitchell is an early enrollee and has participated in the Fourth Quarter conditioning program.
Practice begins Monday when head coach Nick Saban is scheduled to address the media for the first time this season after the conclusion of practice that evening.
