TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Not good news. But not necessarily bad news either.

Alabama Softball RHP Montana Fouts went out of the Crimson Tide's SEC tournament quarterfinal game against No. 13 Arkansas in tears on Thursday night.

At that moment, the outlook wasn't good.

Head coach Patrick Murphy gave an update on TIDE 100.9's "The Gary Harris Show" on Wednesday morning — and it was somewhat positive news.

Fouts has a hyperextension in her leg — and Murphy is calling it "truly day-to-day."

"You could see when she landed, it locked down a little bit," Murphy said. "It surprised her obviously. You could tell when she tried again, it hurt. We really haven't had something like that, but the doctors have all seen it in every other sport. That reassured me this isn't a one-in-a-million thing. It's happened in other sports."

Fouts (23-9, 1.44 ERA) has carried the team on her shoulders for a lot of this season. But as of late, the Crimson Tide's lineup is heating up at the right time.

And even better, Alabama was dealt a very fortunate draw during Monday's NCAA Tournament Selection Show — receiving the No. 5 overall seed in the field.

The Crimson Tide will host Middle Tennessee State, Central Arkansas, and Long Island this weekend at Rhoads Stadium.

Alabama will begin its hunt for a second national championship on Friday against Long Island at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
