Alabama Women's Basketball Loses to Baylor 78-74
The game couldn't have started any better for Alabama women's basketball, but the ending couldn't have been worse as the Crimson Tide lost to Baylor78-74 in the round of 64.
Brittany Davis tied a career-high and a tournament program record with 33 points on 16 shots, including a 7-for-11 performance on 3-pointers. Sarah Ashlee Barker and Aaliyah each added 11 points. The team made 53.8 percent of its 3-pointers, its second-best mark of the season.
Ja'Mee Asberry led the Lady Bears with 26 points on 7-for-13 shooting on 3-pointers. Sarah Andrews and Caitlin Bickle each had 14 points, and Bella Fontleroy was the last double-digit scorer with 10 points.
Davis had an amazing first quarter, scoring 15 points while going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Alabama's defense was also stellar, holding Baylor to 2-for-16 from the field and no 3-pointers. The score was 22-4 after the first quarter.
The rest of the game was arguably Baylor's however, as the Lady Bears outscored the Crimson Tide the next three quarters to cut into the lead.
Baylor got its first lead after opening the third quarter on a 16-3 run to make the score 46-44 Baylor. The Tide soon regained control with a personal 5-0 run from Barker, and Alabama held on to the lead 59-54 going into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, Baylor used another 9-0 run to regain the lead 71-68. The two teams continued to exchange baskets until Baylor went on a 7-0 run with just free throws to seal the win.
