Alabama No. 2 in preseason AP Top 25

As expected, the reigning champion Clemson Tigers were voted No. 1 in the preseason AP Top 25.
Clemson received 52 first-place votes and Alabama received the other 10 in the media all. Clemson snapped a record-tying string of three straight years in which Alabama was preseason No. 1.
The Crimson Tide has also been No. 1 at some point of every season since 2008, a Division I record.
It's the first time Clemson has been the preseason No. 1. The Tigers will try to become the 12th team to start No. 1 and finish No. 1 since the preseason poll started in 1950. The last to do it was Alabama in 2017.
Only two teams have gone wire-to-wire as No. 1: Florida State in 1999 and Southern California in 2004.
Per AP, Alabama is preseason No. 2 for the ninth time, matching Oklahoma for the most times starting in that spot.
Clemson and Alabama have split the last four national championships, and played in the last four playoffs with each winning twice.
The Crimson Tide has three ranked teams on its 2019 schedule, No. 6 LSU, No. 12 Texas A&M and No. 16 Auburn.
