BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Alabama basketball is headed to its second Sweet 16 in three seasons.

On Saturday night inside Legacy Arena, the 1-seed Crimson Tide defeated the 8-seed Maryland Terrapins 73-51 for its second win of the weekend. Ironically, it was also Maryland that Alabama faced in the Round of the 32 back in 2021.

Still dealing with a groin injury that hampered him in Alabama's First Round win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, freshman forward Brandon Miller responded with 19 points and seven rebounds as well as a block.

Jahvon Quinerly continued to be his typical March self, scoring a team-leading 22 points while recording two rebounds, two assists and three steals.

As a team, Alabama shot 23-of-58 (40 percent) from the floor and 6-of-21 (29 percent) compared to 35 percent from the floor and 13 percent from deep for Maryland. In the rebound game, the Crimson Tide out-rebounded the Terrapins by a final margin of 44-32.

With the first two rounds of March Madness behind it, Alabama will now travel to Louisville, Ky., to face 5-seed San Diego State. The game is slated to take place on Friday, but the tipoff time and television network are yet to be announced.
