Bryce Young Opting to Throw at Alabama Pro Day, not NFL Combine
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama quarterback Bryce Young will not be throwing at the NFL scouting combine on Saturday, but instead will wait until the Crimson Tide's pro day on March 23 to make throws in front of scouts.
Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud, Kentucky's Will Levis and Florida's Anthony Richardson were all announced to be throwing in front of NFL scouts this weekend. It was expected that Young would opt to wait for Alabama's pro day, but Monday's report made his decision official.
Young will still travel to Indianapolis, Ind., to interview with NFL teams but will not do anything on the field.
All four quarterbacks are ranked as consensus top-10 prospects by ESPN's draft analysts. In Sports Illustrated's latest mock draft, Young is projected to be the first quarterback off the board, drafted at No. 2 overall by the Houston Texans. Stroud is next up, drafted by the Indianapolis Colts at No. 4 while Levis is projected to be drafted at No. 9 by the Carolina Panthers.
Richardson is the lowest of the four quarterbacks, projected to be taken at No. 16 overall by the Washington Commanders.
Young is the overall favorite to be the first quarterback taken in April's draft. The Alabama product threw for 8,356 yards and 80 touchdowns over his college career while throwing just 12 interceptions. Young also won the 2021 Heisman Trophy, making him the first Crimson Tide quarterback to do so in program history. He also helped Alabama win a national championship in the 2020 season while serving as a backup to Mac Jones.
The one concern regarding Young is his size, which is currently listed as 6'0" and 194 pounds per Alabama Athletics. While he won't be competing side-by-side with his competition at this year's combine, he will still have ample opportunity to show his skills come March 23 in Tuscaloosa.
