• One week off his win at the Northeast Amateur, Alabama golfer Nick Dunlap came back from being down two heading into the final eight holes of the match-play championship to win the 123rd North & South Amateur at Pinehurst (N.C.). Dunplap defeated Stanford’s Karl Vilips 1 up in the match-play final that had been suspended by inclement weather Saturday. With the back-to-back wins, Dunlap has won two of the first three Elite Amateur Series events of the summer (there are seven, and emerged as a huge favorite to make the Walker Cup team that will play in St. Andrews in September.
“Every win is special, but especially this place,” Dunlap said. “There’s so much history behind it, and then you hear some of the names to also hold this trophy, it’s really special. To be in the history books of Pinehurst forever, to hopefully get some rounds in for next year’s Open, there’s nothing like it.”

Crimson Tide Quote of the Day:
“When I was young, I wanted to win awfully bad, and I still like to win. But the biggest thrill I get out of football is to look out there and see people who have been out of school for 10 or 15 years, people who may not have played a down, and see them doing well after they get out of here. It is important to take your place in society and give something positive back." — Paul W. “Bear” Bryant speaking at an awards banquet in New York honoring the top 52 high school athletes in America on this date in 1980
