Did you notice?

• Although Alabama volleyball lost its longest set in over a decade, it swept the other three to defeat Mississippi State at Foster Auditorium. After the Crimson Tide (11-5, 3-2 SEC) took the opening set 25-18, the second set extended well past the 25-point mark, with 14 set points before the Bulldogs eventually won, 39-37. The 76 combined points in the second set is the highest point total for the Crimson Tide since a 42-40 set loss to Ole Miss on Nov. 8,2007. Five Crimson Tide players finished with double-digit kills, led by senior Ginger Perinar with 15, sophomore Erin Curl had 14, and junior Doris Carter notched 14 along with 12 digs. “[The second set] was about pride, regardless of what the outcome was,” Crimson Tide coach Lindsey Devine said in a release. “We had to keep on fighting. I asked them after the set whether it was going to be motivation for us or an anchor. They used it as motivation.”

• We’ll leave you with this …

On this date in Crimson Tide history:

Oct. 10, 1936: Halfback Joe Kilgrow faked a punt and ran it 83 yards for the lone touchdown in Alabama's 7-0 win over Mississippi State before 17,000 screaming fans at Denny Stadium. Kilgrow also kicked the extra point after his second-quarter run as Alabama avenged a 20-7 loss the year before.

Crimson Tide quote of the day:

"That was as fine a defensive performance in the first half as I've been around." — Nick Saban after the 2009 Ole Miss win, when the Rebels completed just two passes and had 5 rushing yards during the first two quarters.
