• The family of Alabama announcer Chris Stewart started a gofundme drive to help raise money to cover his medical expenses. It raised $22,500-plus in less than a day, including a $1,000 donation from former Alabama linebacker DeMeco Ryans.

• Former Alabama wide receiver and coach Ray Perkins was named to the Southeastern Conference’s 2019 Football Legends Class. Perkins lettered from 1964-66 as a wide receiver on three SEC championship teams and won two national titles. As a senior, he caught 33 passes for 490 yards and seven touchdowns, earning All-American honors as he capped his final season with 178 yards receiving in the Crimson Tide's 34-7 Sugar Bowl win over Nebraska. Perkins succeeded Paul "Bear" Bryant as Alabama's head coach, compiling a 32-15-1 record and three bowl victories from 1983-86.

• Alabama baseball officially begins its fall slate on Friday with its first full-team practice at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

• The Alabama women’s golf team is set to compete at the Schooner Fall Classic, Sept. 27-29, at the Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Okla. for the fourth consecutive season. The Crimson Tide won last year’s tournament with a NCAA record 45-under par performance (272-262-273/807).

On this date in Crimson Tide history:

September 27, 1958: Paul W. “Bear” Bryant's first game as the Alabama head coach occurred at Ladd Field in Mobile, where the Crimson Tide lost to eventual national champion LSU, 13-3. Alabama led 3-0 at halftime on a field goal by Fred Sington, Jr., the first points of the Bryant era. The game is also remembered for part of the stadium collapsing during the game.
