For Alabama defensive tackle Daron Payne has agreed to a new four-year deal with the Washington Commanders. It was first reported ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The deal is worth $90 million that includes $60 million guaranteed. Payne is now the second-highest paid defensive tackle in NFL history behind the Los Angeles Rams' Aaron Donald.

Payne, the 13th overall pick in the 2018 draft by the then-Washington Redskins, is coming off of a Pro Bowl season that saw him rack up 64 total tackles, including 18 tackles for loss, and 11.5 sacks. His sack total was the 13th-most in the NFL last season, and Ron Rivera and Co. decided to secure the long-term future one of its young defensive stars.

Payne is the latest in line of former Alabama players who have received more money; Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa's fifth-year option was picked up, solidifying where the franchise stands on his health (remember he suffered two concussions that made many question his career going forward) and his future as the team's signal-caller.
