How to Watch: No. 3 Alabama Basketball at Auburn

What you need to know about the Crimson Tide's road trip to Auburn for the Iron Bowl of Basketball.

It is one of the greatest rivalries in all of sports that has continued to blossom on the basketball court the last few seasons thanks to the help of Nate Oats and Bruce Pearl. This Saturday will be the first edition of the 2023 Iron Bowl of Basketball when No. 3 Alabama travels down to the Plains for a rivalry matchup with Auburn.

As if there wasn't enough hype already, College Gameday will be in town to broadcast before the game. Despite the Tigers struggling as of late, losing four of their last five, the Alabama head coach knows this isn't going to be an easy game, even with how well his team's been playing.

"One thing I know for sure is they’re gonna play as hard as we’ve seen a team play all year down at their place," Oats said after Alabama's win over Florida. "And the crowd’s gonna be really into it. They’ve got an unbelievable atmosphere to play games in, and they’ve got a good team who’s gonna play really hard that’s really well-coached. It’s gonna be a tough road game for us.”

Alabama has only won at Neville Arena (formerly known as Auburn Arena) once since 2015, and it was in 2021 as part of the Crimson Tide's SEC Championship run. But because of COVID restrictions, it was not a full-capacity crowd inside the arena.

The Crimson Tide is undefeated in SEC play and striving for its first No. 1-seed in NCAA Tournament history, and the Tigers would love to play spoiler to that this weekend.

Last Meeting: It has been over a year since the Tide and Tigers met on the hardwood. On Feb. 2, 2022, the two teams played in Neville Arena with Auburn winning 100-81 to complete the season sweep over Alabama. The Tigers were ranked No. 1 at the time and had a big halftime lead. The Crimson Tide opened the second half on an 18-6 run, but it wasn't enough to get back into the game. Jaden Shackelford led Alabama in scoring with 26 points, while Jahvon Quinerly had 20. Wendell Green Jr. had 23 points for the Tigers.

Last Time Out, Alabama: The Crimson Tide picked up another dominant SEC win. Alabama raced out to a 29-point halftime lead over Florida and never looked back in the 97-67 win. The Crimson Tide made 15 3-pointers, including four apiece from Brandon Miller and Mark Sears. Alabama has won 10 of its 11 SEC games by double digits.

Last Time Out, Auburn: On the other hand, the Tigers are on a little bit of a skid, dropping four of their last five games. Most recently, Auburn lost on the road at Texas A&M 83-78 Tuesday night. The Tigers cut it to a one-possession deficit with less than two minutes left on a layup from Green, but would not have another field goal for the rest of the game. Johni Broome had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Green led the Tigers in scoring with 20 points.
