If you haven’t been outside today, or you’re not in Alabama, it’s cold here in Tuscaloosa just like everywhere else.

It’s the kind of day that our parents said to get outside do some manual work because it builds character.

Guess what we’re going to talk about today regarding the Alabama football team?

One of my favorite quotes from Paul W. “Bear” Bryant was: “Show class, have pride and display character. If you do, winning takes care of itself.”

And he was right. You hear Nick Saban preach the same kind of thing all the time, but getting everyone on a football team to do so isn’t easy.

While the mood around town has been somber, just like it is after every loss, on the flip side we’re about to find out what this team is really made of. Is it just a group of outstanding players, or can it come together and do whatever necessary to make the College Football Playoff.

How do you want to be remembered at Alabama?

A common thread with every national championship team since 2009 has been the ability to come together, overcome obstacles and get the job done.

In 2012, it bounced back from the loss to Texas A&M on Nov. 10, and a quarterback who quite frankly I was reminded of a lot by Joe Burrow, Johnny Manziel.

In 2015, the loss to Ole Miss was the best thing that could have happened to Alabama.

In 2017, the Auburn game was the wake-up call.

Even in 2010, when Alabama lost three games it still came back, regrouped and absolutely crushed Michigan State in the Capital One Bowl – the precursor to back-to-back titles in 2011 and 2012.

Despite all the other issues, we’re about to find out what the 2019 team is all about.
