Live Updates: Alabama Softball vs. Auburn (Series Finale)
Series is on the line between Alabama and Auburn.
After splitting the doubleheader Saturday, Sunday's finale will determine who takes home the series on a beautiful weather day in front of a huge crowd at Rhoads Stadium.
In Game 1, Montana Fouts threw a complete game, only allowing one run. Ally Shipman went 3-3 at the plate with 3 RBIs, including a big home run to build up the Alabama lead. The Crimson Tide took the first game 6-1.
Auburn started its ace Maddie Penta in Game 2, and she showed why she's one of the best pitchers in the SEC. She allowed just one run in the first inning, and was backed up by her offense with home runs from Bri Ellis and Denver Bryant as Auburn won 5-1.
Despite the win, Alabama was potentially dealt a big blow when starting third basemen and fifth-year senior Ashley Prange got injured on a slide into second base. Prange is wearing a boot Sunday and not dressed out. She leads the team in home runs and RBIs and is a staple on the infield at third.
The two aces didn't directly face off yesterday, but will be matching up Sunday in the circle for the winner-take-all game. Not only will the victor take the series, it will gain a one-game advantage in the conference standings with two series to go.
First pitch is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. and will air on ESPN.
