Luke Holman Leads Alabama Baseball in Shutout win at South Alabama

A home run from Will Hodo and solid pitching propelled the Crimson Tide to the road win.

The Alabama baseball team got back to its winning ways with a 4-0 road win over in-state opponent South Alabama on Tuesday night.

It was a solid offensive performance from the Crimson Tide as the team put together four runs on 10 hits. Three of those runs came from Will Hodo, who hit a two-run home run in the third inning and followed up with an RBI-single in the fifth inning. The fourth run came from Dom Tamez, who drove in Drew Williamson with an RBI-single in the fourth inning.

However, Luke Holman (4-0) was the star of the game. He pitched seven shutout innings and gave up only three hits with no walks and nine strikeouts.

Alton Davis II followed with 2.0 frames that included one punchout to secure the 4-0 victory.

“Obviously, the story of the game for us was Luke Holman," head coach Brad Bohannon said in a statement. "He was outstanding. Any time you go seven shutout innings with three hits, no walks and nine punchouts, you give your team a chance to win.

"(Will) Hodo hit the two-run home run and then got the big two-out single and that was the story offensively for us. Overall, this was a great win and will give us some momentum headed to Gainesville.”

Holman's final inning was, in a way, maybe his most impressive: an error and a wild pitch allowed two runners to get into scoring position with two outs. He responded by striking out the last batter before allowing a run to cross.

The No. 22 will head into Southeastern Conference play with a 16-2 record.

Alabama will visit Florida this weekend. The opening game will be at 6 p.m. CT on Friday. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network.
