Montana Fouts Earns Second-Straight National, SEC Pitcher of Week Honors
After Montana Fouts' no-hitter against South Carolina on Saturday, Alabama head coach Patrick Murphy predicted that the pitcher would once again win the week's pitching awards, and he was right.
For the second straight week and third time this season, Fouts was named the Wilson/NFCA D1 Pitcher of the Week and the SEC Pitcher of the Week. She becomes the first pitcher to win the national award three times in one season since 2015.
It would be hard to find any pitcher in the country that has had a better two weeks than Fouts. This past weekend in the series win over the Gamecocks, she allowed just one unearned run over 16 innings and had 25 strikeouts. The weekend was highlighted by her no-hitter Saturday after facing South Carolina for the second time that weekend. It marked the second weekend in a row Fouts started back-to-back games instead of the first and last games of a series.
Over her last four starts, Fouts has thrown 32 innings, allowing no earned runs and striking out 51 batters. She is now up to 223 strikeouts on the season, which leads the country in that category. With her strong performances the last few weekends, the fifth-year pitcher has lowered her ERA to 1.45 and has 15 wins, tied for second in the SEC.
Alabama will play at Samford Tuesday night before a three-game series at Mississippi State this weekend.
