No. 24 Alabama Baseball Steals Game 3, Loses Series to No. 5 Florida on SEC Opening Weekend
Alabama Baseball did its job over the weekend in Gainesville, Fla.
The 24th-ranked Crimson Tide (17-4, 1-2 SEC) went on the road and took one of three contests against the No. 5 Florida Gators at Condron Family Ballpark.
After being shutout on Thursday night, Alabama brought its bats to the park for Friday's doubleheader scoring seven and six runs, respectively.
Game 1
The Crimson Tide jumped on the board first in Game 1 of the doubleheader, scoring three runs in the first inning. Alabama later held a 7-6 advantage going into the ninth inning, but the Gators (18-4, 2-1 SEC) scored two to walk it off.
It felt like every time the Crimson Tide grabbed a lead, it immediately lost it the next half inning.
Drew Williamson went 4-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs. Will Hodo went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Game 2
Even after blowing a late lead in the first game of the day, Alabama came ready to play and defeated Florida 6-3 in the series finale.
Caden Rose and Tommy Seidl both homered.
The Crimson Tide's pitching was much better in Game 2. Grayson Hitt pitched 5.2 innings, allowing four hits and four walks but just two earned runs. He struck out five.
RHP Kade Woods was phenomenal out of the bullpen, striking out all seven batters he faced in the final 2.2 innings.
Alabama now returns home for a five-game homestand beginning on Tuesday night against UAB.
The Crimson Tide will host Kentucky March 24-26 at Sewell Thomas Stadium.
This story will be updated with quotes from head coach Brad Bohannon.
