The Extra Point: Alabama Baseball Entering Crucial Stretch Run
As the number of years Brad Bohannon has been the head coach of Alabama baseball has risen, so also has the pressure and expectations.
And while the program has seen improvement in recent seasons, there was a bit of added pressure coming into the 2023 season for Alabama baseball after they were unable to make it to an NCAA Regional last year.
Now, the Crimson Tide sit at 26-11 (6-9), and are entering a crucial final stretch in their SEC schedule that could either see the team gain momentum and catapult them into the postseason or stumble and once again miss out on an NCAA Regional for the second straight season.
Alabama's resumé has been solid to this point as they have yet to be swept in a series and have won several games against top teams like Arkansas and Florida.
However, they have been unable to win any series against a conference foe until this past weekend when they took two out of three from their biggest rival, the Auburn Tigers.
Head coach Brad Bohannon noted that the series win came at a very important time.
“Really proud of our team,” Bohannon said. “It was a big weekend. I hate saying that in the middle of April, but that’s just where we were coming into it.”
Alabama currently sits in eighth place in the conference standings, a spot good enough to get them into the SEC Tournament but they will need to continue to add conference wins to their total if they want assure their spot in Hoover.
The Crimson Tide have an important series against the Missouri Tigers this weekend before they will face off against two powerhouses in the form of LSU and Vanderbilt.
Will the Crimson Tide rise to the occasion and ride high into the postseason or fall under the pressure and get swept back out to sea?
