The Extra Point: Alabama Gymnastics Hits the Road Again to Face Georgia
The Crimson Tide gymnastics team is on the road for the second week in a row to compete against No. 19 Georgia in Athens.
No. 9 Alabama has had a strong last couple of meets as they recently hit a team score of 198 at the Metroplex competition against Oklahoma, Stanford and Arkansas in Fort Worth. Alabama scored closely behind Oklahoma, the defending National champions, which is impressive.
Alabama's constant improvement is expected to help their performance this Friday night. The lineup throughout the season has been pretty consistent, but there were a couple of freshmen added to the lineup at their last meet like Karis German on bars and Rachel Rybicki and beam.
Gabby Gladieux is also a freshman, but she has consistently been in the lineup. While the lineups have stayed pretty much the same, there is always a chance for other gymnasts to be added.
It's common for injuries to appear in gymnastics, so it's important that Alabama's gymnasts prepare accordingly if they have to compete even when they weren't expecting to. All of the gymnasts on Alabama's team have worked hard at practice to ensure they can be available to compete if needed.
Even if there is a new lineup where some freshmen gymnasts are added, the team is still capable of reaching a 198 team score again. While the scores have to be nearly perfect to get a 198, with the teams' energy, mindset and skilled performances, they should be able to hit that score or higher again.
The competition between Alabama and Georgia takes place in Athens this Friday night at 6 p.m. CT and will be aired on SEC Network.
