The Extra Point: Alabama Women's Basketball Looks Set for Postseason Run
The Crimson Tide Women's Basketball currently sitting at a 20-6 record, with a 9-4 SEC record after their win over Vanderbilt on Thursday.
Most of the NCAA Tournament predictions have Alabama sitting as an eight seed, with a potential matchup against a top seed Connecticut with a win.
While the regular season is not over yet, this year's team shows a lot more promise than the last few seasons. A key part of that promise has been the depth, with Alabama having ten players that can all put up 10 points on any given night.
Brittany Davis leads the way for sure, but players like Sarah Ashlee Barker, Hannah Barber, and Aaliyah Nye have stepped up on multiple occasions. This will be crucial if Alabama is to make a run in both the SEC and NCAA Tournament.
Last season, Alabama made the Women's NIT Tournament, and in their loss to South Dakota State, they only had seven players play more than 11 minutes and got outscored 22-9 in the fourth quarter
That should not be a problem this season, and with the return of Megan Abrams from injury, the depth and leadership gets better. While the team is a really of veteran group, Abrams gives this team an added boost off the bench.
While March is still a few weeks away, the Crimson Tide looks like it could make some serious noise and possibly cause an upset in the postseason.
The team's next game is Sunday at 4:30 CT on the road against Mississippi State.
