The Extra Point: Alabama Women's Basketball Postseason Expectations

All that remains for Kristy Curry's 10th team is the NCAA Tournament.

Comparatively, it's been a pretty good season for Alabama women's basketball and head coach Kristy Curry.

The Crimson Tide currently sits at a 20-10 record and posted a 9-7 record in SEC play this year. All signs point to Alabama being selected for the NCAA Tournament this coming Sunday, the program's second berth in three years and Curry's second in her Alabama tenure.

The 2021 team that made the tournament was the program's first since 1999 to go dancing, so making two in three years shows significant progress for the tournament as a whole.

Unfortunately, though, the Crimson Tide is somewhat limping into the tournament this season.

After a very strong 20-6 start to the season, Alabama has lost four games in a row, including the final three games of the regular season to Mississippi State, Florida and Ole Miss. This three-game losing skid caused Alabama to miss the double-bye in the SEC Tournament, which resulted in a loss to last-place Kentucky in its first game in Greensboro.

ESPN's bracketology currently projects Alabama as a 10-seed, which is lower than the potential 7-seed or higher that the Crimson Tide had a chance to shoot for a few weeks ago.

Regardless, the NCAA Tournament marks a new beginning, and Alabama has every chance to right what has been a disappointing end to its 2022-23 campaign.
