The Extra Point: Have the Carolina Panthers Made their First Pick?
The Carolina Panthers will host Alabama quarterback Bryce Young on Tuesday, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
The 2021 Heisman Trophy winner is considered a consensus top-5 pick and has been the first prospect off the board in multiple recent NFL mock drafts. Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud previously held that title.
The Panthers have the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and are very likely to take a quarterback since it's one of their only offensive weaknesses. Carolina added Pro Bowl running back Miles Sanders, wide receivers Adam Thielen and DJ Chark and tight end Hayden Hurst this offseason.
Young's height has caused lots of debate in the NFL community on whether it'll affect his draft stock. However, his second visit with the holders of the first overall pick could be an indicator that they are going with him.
Young and the Panthers new offensive arsenal could benefit from each other in multiple ways.
Young is known for being calm under pressure and is accurate on all three levels. Sanders proved last year that he could gain first downs as he finished fifth in rushing yards last season.
Thielen is on the back-end of his career, but a fresh start on as the potential WR1 on a new team could get him back to his old self, after being a WR2 for so long under Justin Jefferson and Stefon Diggs.
Chark has suffered a multitude of injuries over his young career, but if the 26-year-old can stay healthy, Young could be the catalyst to creating his second Pro Bowl season (2019).
The addition of Young on April 27 could start a potential playoff-seeking season for Carolina.
