The Extra Point: No. 9 Alabama Gymnastics Takes on No. 8 LSU This Weekend

Alabama and LSU are neck-and-neck in the top-10 of the national rankings.

Alabama gymnastics is back at home to compete against LSU in Coleman Coliseum this Friday night.

The last two meets have been away competitions at the Metroplex Challenge in Texas and the meet against Georgia. The Crimson Tide was able to beat Georgia by 2 tenths of a point last Friday.

This season, Alabama and LSU are pretty even in the rankings with the Tigers coming in at No. 8 and the Crimson Tide at No. 9. In the last regular season dual meet between the two teams in 2022, LSU won by .450 in Baton Rouge. Alabama won the 2021 dual meet in Tuscaloosa, which snapped a losing streak against the Tigers dating back to 2013.

LSU gymnast Livvy Dunne will be in attendance at this upcoming meet. Dunne is an internet sensation and TikTok star. However, BamaCentral’s Mason Smith does not think that will intimidate Alabama’s gymnasts.

In fact, the Crimson Tide has faced many other well-known gymnasts and Olympians like Suni Lee, Morgi Hurd, and Leanne Wong. Even though that could’ve pressured Alabama, the gymnasts were still about to perform with precision.

At each competition, Alabama’s overall team score continues to improve, and the athletes all say they have learned something new at each competition.

While LSU and Alabama are neck-and-neck in rankings, the Crimson Tide could still secure a win if they are able to keep their consistency, technique, and confidence on each event.

The competition between Alabama and LSU takes place in Coleman Coliseum this Friday night at 7 p.m. CT and will be aired on SEC Network.
