The Extra Point: What to Expect at the Metroplex Gymnastics Meet
The Metroplex gymnastics meet will take place this Saturday night in Texas. No. 1 Oklahoma will be in attendance as well as No. 11 Alabama, No. 24 Stanford and No. 16 Arkansas.
No. 11 Alabama is 3-2 and has had a pretty consistent season as their all-around team score keeps improving. They finished with an all-around score of 197.850 last week against No. 6 Auburn.
It seems to be at each competition, Alabama has a little bump in the road, but they always bounce back. Last week, Makarri Doggette fell on vault, which was unusual, but the team was still able to finish with a record breaking 49.700 on floor in program history.
With the comebacks the team has made, their growth seems to be preparing them for Oklahoma. Oklahoma has been undefeated this season and is expected to win.
Although, Alabama definitely has the chance to be a close second. They may even be able to secure a win by having stuck landings, good technique, and confidence.
The Crimson Tide has improved each meet, and if they take what they have learned in the past, they could have the chance to step up to Oklahoma. This meet is also a podium meet which means all of the equipment is up on about a 4-foot surface.
This may seem a little intimidating which could affect the gymnasts' performance a little, but they have trained these their skills over and over. With that consistency, the podium may not affect them.
The competition between Alabama, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Stanford takes place in Fort Worth, Texas this Saturday night at 7:15 p.m. CT.
