The Extra Point: Where does Brandon Miller Rank Among the Alabama Greats?
There’s no doubt that Brandon Miller is one of the greatest basketball players to ever play for the University of Alabama, and it only took him a year to earn the recognition and countless awards. As Miller likely heads for the NBA Draft, where does he rank among the Alabama greats?
Crimson Tide standouts like Collin Sexton, Robert Horry, Latrell Sprewell and James "Hollywood" Robinson have all made their mark on the university, but they didn't necessarily face the obstacles Miller had to.
Throughout the season, the Crimson Tide community made comparisons of where Miller ranks among the Alabama greats, but the game that may have put him over the top was on Feb. 22. against South Carolina on the road.
Just days after he was rumored to be linked to the fatal shooting of Jamea Jonae Harris, Miller was receiving death threats. The college basketball community thought that he shouldn't be playing, even though he wasn't charged and didn't directly give the gone to ex-teammate Darius Miles.
Miller dropped 41 points on 14-of-25 from the field, eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks on a South Carolina crowd that chanted "lock him up" throughout the game. The 20-year-old hit the game winning layup with one second remaining in overtime to avoid the upset.
Very few pro athletes can face the pressure and obstacles that the college freshamn faced during those couple of weeks. That, along with all of the awards and records is why Brandon Miller could make the argument as the best basketball player to ever play at the University of Alabama.
