The Extra Point: Which Alabama Player is in the Best Position After the First Round?
With day one of the NFL Draft complete and three Alabama players off the board, it is never too early to think about which player has the best position on their respective team.
The first Alabama player off the board was unsurprisingly Bryce Young , who went to the Carolina Panthers with the No. 1 overall pick.
After the Panthers made a massive trade earlier this year to acquire the top pick, it seemed likely that quarterback was going to be the move. However, the trade did get rid of DJ Moore, the number one receiver in Carolina, so it is going to be an interesting team for Young.
The second player off the board for Alabama was Will Anderson, who Houston traded up to get with the No. 3 overall pick. Anderson was the Texans second pick of the draft, after they took CJ Stroud with the No. 2 overall pick. The linebacker goes into a team that is in a clear rebuild, and they still have a long way to go before they become a competitive team in the NFL.
The last Alabama player taken in the first round was Jahmyr Gibbs, who went No. 12 to the Detroit Lions. It was a surprising pick seeing as Detroit already has a lead back in D'Andre Swift, but losing their rushing touchdown leader in Jamaal Williams was a big loss.
Overall, Gibbs should see the most team success early in his career. Detroit uses multiple running backs fairly often, so he should get a lot of touches, either on the ground of through the air.
With Detroit losing Jameson Williams for the first six games due to a suspension, Gibbs could see himself getting on the field more in a pass-catching role.
With these players going to very different organizations, it will be interesting to see which player is in the better position come September.
