The Extra Point: Who will be the King of "Bama in the NFL" in 2023?
As the NFL season came to a close on Sunday night, we now must wait until September for it to kick off once again.
The University of Alabama had a historic representation this season with a record of 12 players making the Pro Bowl. Jalen Hurts and Josh Jacobs were among the best Crimson Tide products in the NFL this season, but who has a shot at being the king next season?
You're probably thinking of Derrick Henry, Najee Harris, Tua Tagovailoa and many more. But Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy is also a potential candidate for the crown.
All eyes were on Denver at the beginning of the season, as likely future Hall of Fame quarterback Russell Wilson was traded to the Broncos in the offseason. It was assumed that they were a quarterback away from becoming a threat to hold the Lombardi Trophy in February.
Half way through the season, that was no longer a possibility. Wilson had the worst season of his career and head coach first-year Nathaniel Hackett was fired at the end of the season.
Jeudy finished the season with 67 receptions for 972 yards and six touchdowns, all career highs.
On Feb. 3, the Broncos hired Sean Payton to become their next head coach. The long time head coach for the Saints had stepped away from the game this past season.
An offensive mind like Payton could turn this team, leading Wilson to get back to his normal self and Jeudy, his primary target, to a All-Pro caliber season.
Two other players that are certainly longshots to take the "Bama in the NFL" crown aren't even in the league yet: Bryce Young and Will Anderson Jr.
Young will likely start wherever he is drafted and has the potential to make an immediate impact. Should he go to the Texans second overall, a reunion with wide receiver John Metchie III will bring immediate chemistry to Houston's locker room.
Anderson was considered the top pick after his sophomore season. After being double and triple-teamed for most of his junior year, he still led the SEC in sacks and tackles for loss. In the NFL, he'll only be facing one blocker (at least in the first few weeks).
