Bama in the NFL Tracker: NFL Week 4 Recap
NFL Week 4 Recap
- The Denver Broncos have not had the season they expected, but may have turned their season around against the Chicago Bears. After trailing 28-7 late in the third quarter, the Broncos stormed back to win, 31-28. Former Alabama wide receiver Jerry Jeudy led the passing game with three catches for 52 yards, cornerback Patrick Surtain II had three tackles and two pass breakups, and safety Kareem Jackson had eight tackles, one pass breakup, and the game-sealing pick on Bears quarterback Justin Fields. The Broncos secured their first win of the season.
- Calvin Ridley scored his first touchdown as a Jacksonville Jaugar against his former team, the Atlanta Falcons. The Jaguars and the Falcons faced off in London, and Ridley had two catches for 38 yards and the opening score. The Jaguars, who won 23-7, will remain in London for the week before they face the Bills.
- After dropping 70 points last week, Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins came crashing down to earth, losing by 28 to Buffalo. Tagovailoa still passed for 282 yards and a touchdown in the loss. Jaylen Waddle had four catches for 46 yards in his return to action from his concussion. Defensively, Da'Shawn Hand had four tackles and Raekwon Davis had one tackle for Miami.
- Derrick Henry looked to make his return as the Titans' leading rusher, totaling for 122 yards and a score on the ground in their win over the Bengals. Shyheim Carter played in his first NFL action and had one tackle.
- Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles were tested Sunday, with the Washington Commanders forcing overtime in the NFC East matchup. Hurts threw for 319 yards and two touchdowns in the win, DeVonta Smith had seven catches for 78 receiving yards, and Josh Jobe had two tackles and a pass breakup in the Eagles. For Washington, Brian Robinson Jr. had 45 yards and a touchdown; Jonathan Allen had four tackles, one sack, one quarterback hit, and two tackles for loss; and Daron Payne had one pass defended and one quarterback hit.
- The New York Jets couldn't quite be the "Anti-Hero" (yes, that's the title of a Taylor Swift song for those who don't listen to a lot of pop music), losing to the Chiefs 23-20. Patrick Mahomes had two interceptions, one of them by C.J. Mosley. The standout linebacker had 11 tackles, one pass defended, and the interception, while defensive lineman Quinnen Williams had four tackles, one quarterback hit, and half of a sack.

NFL Week 4 Preview
- Week 4 opens up with the Detroit Lions taking on the Green Bay Packers at historic Lambeau Field. Safety Brian Branch is already looking like a huge steal of the 2023 NFL Draft and has provided a big spark to a Lions defense that has started strong this season. The Packers will look to get their top two weapons back with Aaron Jones and Christian Watson, so Branch and the Lions will have a challenging task. Isaiah Buggs and the Lions' defensive line should be able to slow down the Packers run game, especially since Green Bay will be missing two of its top two offensive linemen in David Bakhtiari and Elgton Jenkins. Offensively for Detroit, Jahmyr Gibbs will be the de facto starter if David Montgomery (thigh) is unable to start. Montgomery is listed as questionable. Wide receiver Jameson Williams has served the first half of his six-week suspension but still can't do anything except sit in on team meetings.
- Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was voted AFC Offensive Player of the Month for September after he and the Miami Dolphins had a historic performance, putting up 70 points on the Denver Broncos. Tagovailoa has 1,024 yards and eight touchdowns through the first three weeks of the season. The Dolphins will face their toughest test of the young season, heading north to Buffalo to take on the Bills. Tagovailoa should have a healthy receiving core this week as Jaylen Waddle is set to return after missing Week 3 with a concussion suffered against New England. Raekwon Davis will help the defensive line try to stop a powerful Bills offense, led by Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs. Damien Harris is a goal-line back for Buffalo, so keep an eye out for No. 22.
- Bryce Young missed Week 3 after suffering an ankle injury in the Panthers' loss to the Saints on Monday. Andy Dalton couldn't quite lead the Panthers to their first win of the season against the Seahawks, resulting in an 0-3 start. The Panthers take on the winless Vikings this week, and Young is expected to return to the starting lineup after practicing on Wednesday. The Vikings are also 0-3, so one of these teams is about to be in such a large hold that it can really start thinking about next season.
- Quarterback Jalen Hurts will face one of the toughest defensive lines in the NFL on Sunday. The Philadelphia Eagles will take on the Washington Commanders, led by Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne up front, who were teammates with Hurts during their time at Alabama. Running back Brian Robinson Jr. is the leading tailback in the Commanders backfield, but he'll have his work cut out for him. Wide receiver DeVonta Smith will also look to get back on track against Washington after just 28 receiving yards on Monday night against Tampa Bay. Guard Landon Dickerson left that game with a knee contusion but is expected to play on Sunday.
- Mac Jones and the Patriots got their first win of the season last Sunday against the New York Jets, who have been struggling since quarterback Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles in the opener. Might Jones and the Patriots be hitting the Cowboys at the right time? Cornerback Trevon Diggs tore his ACL before Dallas lost against Arizona last week. The Cowboys look to get back on track at home. Christian Barmore will anchor the Patriots defensive line against a Cowboys rushing attack led by Tony Pollard.
