On April 27, Bryce Young made history by becoming the first Alabama football player to be drafted first overall in the modern draft era. The Carolina Panthers selected the Crimson Tide signal caller after trading with the Chicago Bears for the first overall pick.

Eighty-five days after the first round, Bryce Young becomes the final member of Alabama's 2023 draftees to sign his rookie contract. The deal is a fully guaranteed four-year contract worth $37.95 million, with $24.6 million coming as a signing bonus. As always with first-round rookies, Young's deal includes a fifth-year option for the Panthers.

Contract negotiations came down to the wire, with Panthers rookies being set to report to training camp tomorrow morning.

Young was selected first overall after spending three years at Alabama, starting two, where he had 8,356 passing yards, 80 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and a 165.0 career passer rating. Young also racked up numerous awards during his time in college, winning the 2021 AP Player of the Year, the 2021 Davey O'Brien Award, the 2021 Manning Award, the 2021 Maxwell Award, the 2021 SEC Offensive Player of the Year, and the 2021 Heisman Trophy.

Young won the SEC Championship as a starter in 2021 and a national championship from the 2020 Alabama season, where he backed up quarterback Mac Jones.

After a highly successful college campaign, Young now turns his sights to the NFL. The Panthers begin training camp July 22. Carolina's first game of the season will be in a familiar environment to Young: Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, where the Panthers will take on the Falcons. Young will make his home debut for the Panthers in week two against the New Orleans Saints.

Young joins Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa, and Mac Jones as former Crimson Tide signal callers in the NFL.
